When Was the Last Time You Had New Hair?

By now, many of us have already settled into the new year and a new decade!

We’ve started new goals, diets, workouts, house hunting, relationships, family planning, budgets, wardrobe changes and new hair!

Whether it’s a total transformation or a new cut and color, starting off the year with a fresh look is always top of the list.

For many of us though, it’s bittersweet!

Some are plagued with hair that seems to never change.

Hair loss. Damaged. Challenging. Always dry. Heat damaged. Bad color. The wrong haircut. Over-processed. Just not being able to manage hair are a few reasons on a long list of hair struggles for most.

No matter what new product emerges promising amazing hair, it always stops short of incredible for you, right?

And let’s not forget the infamous struggle.

Trying new hair stylists!

For many it’s been an epic fail as you frantically search for the right fit for your hair only to be let down every time.

When it comes to making changes of any kind, I always advise taking it one change at a time and in phases.

With each new season, make a significant difference and you’ll always be happy with every progress made over time.

Step one: To cut or not to cut?

Always remember, shape is key.

Wearing the right shape for your lifestyle, face shape and hair texture makes a major difference.

While shopping social media for a new look, consider if it will fit you, your personal style and overall image.

Can you style it at home? Will you visit the salon when needed?

Does your hair care regimen include the best products to give you amazing results?

Do you have the right tools to safely style your hair?

What’s the difference between a trim and a cut?

A trim happens inch by inch, done over a span of time to improve the overall health of your hair to eliminate damaged areas and split ends immediately.

A haircut introduces a total change and an entire new shape to your hair by removing several inches to completely transform your shape from one length to another instantly.

A trim is recommended every 6-8 weeks for short to shoulder length hair and 3-4 months for longer hair.

To maintain a new haircut, frequent visits are a must from 4-6 weeks.

Step two: Hair Color.

Hair color is one of the biggest changes you could ever make.

It changes everything!

I’ve been a colorist to thousands and taught countless stylists and salons how to successfully color clients, but one rule will never change. Flawless, naturally beautiful hair color.

I’m a huge a fan of natural looking hair color.

Wearing the wrong hair color is like wearing the wrong make-up.

You can never go wrong with wearing the right color for your skin. Period!

Hair color that looks like you were born with it will always be flawless.

Before taking the big leap, consider the health of your hair first, followed by texture.

Can your hair handle color right now and what’s the best choice for you. Permanent or temporary? A major change, or subtle?

The placement of color is also key and determined by face shape. Hair color can actually change the structure of your face. Literally.

The presence of depth, multi-dimensional tones and brighter accent pieces can totally transform not just your hair, but your whole entire image.
